Podcast Interview With Norman Ellis-Flint! - Part Two

Podcast Interview With Norman Ellis-Flint! - Part Two

Norman Ellis-Flint has played an important and fascinating role in the evolution and development of modern radio and radio advertising. Norman was one of the pioneers in the development of several major rock stations across the United States and then became a leader and innovator in developing some of the most powerful marketing concepts used by companies that advertised on radio.

Working as a young man in San Francisco during the famous “Summer of Love,” Norman helped develop KMPX-FM: one of the first true rock stations in America. The format Norman developed was quickly picked up by KSJO-FM in San Jose and many other stations across the United States. In less than 18 months, CBS took notice of Norman’s and his partner Lou Waters’ success and influence and brought him to New York City, to help turnaround and revitalize WCBS-FM.

Norman was later lured away from WCBS to work with John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Kharma Productions in Toronto, Canada. Norman was hired to be their Director of Creative and Media Relations. It was here that Norman gained so much of his in-depth understanding of business, marketing and advertising.

We had a wonderful time with Norman during our interview and afterward. We won't give about the story here in this post, however, we invite you to click on the podcast logo below and check out Part One. You can also check out Norman on the internet too!

Part Two of the Bruce E. Singer Podcast - Show # 16

Part Two of the Bruce E. Singer Podcast - Show # 16

Bruce E. Singer is a Voting Grammy Member, published song writer ("Don't Touch That Dial," Engelbert Humperdinck / CBS Records) and published author (satire / parody of comedian Al Franken, Random House / Xlibris Press). Mr. Singer combines his well-honed business expertise with his creative gifts to create "win-win" deals and a "good deal more."

There's so much more to the Bruce Singer story and you'll get a kick out of part one on What's Out Next! I first met Bruce Singer at a song writing class that was taught by Al Kasha in 1977. We ended up partnering together to create an ASCAP Music Publishing company called L.A. Music Publishing. We never thought we'd get the name but guess what? Nobody had it so we got it.

During our many adventures together we produced a number of records together including Lady Rhythm with Bruce's brother Donnie Singer. The song was reviewed in Cashbox and Billboard and even ended up with a rating of an B+/84 rating on American Bandstand!

Since 1977 Bruce continues to amaze me with his song writing skills, marketing genius and we continue to support each other with our newest venture (mums the word), Movie Capital, Inc. starting over the next 30 days.

Mr. Singer welcomes your questions, comments or insights at: besinger@dc.rr.com

Dan Radlauer, Composer Extraordinaire -Part 2

Part Two of Dan Radlauer, Composer Extraordinaire!

From Full Orchestral Scores to Head Banging Rock and Cutting edge Techno. Swinging Big Band Jazz and Retro 60’s Lounge to Ethnic and Acoustic Music. From Hip Hop and Sound Design to delicate intimate scores. Few composers have the breadth and depth that Dan Radlauer has!

For almost 20 years I have known Dan and have watched his growth as a world class composer, sound designer and Film, TV and Commercial miracle worker!

Currently Dan Radlauer is writing for the number one show on VH1, Surreal Life (which is viewed on both VH1 & the WB TV Network). An accomplished pianist, guitarist, bassist, orchestrator and synthesizer programmer his influences and abilities give him the range and expertise to compose in any musical situation. He is also frequently asked to collaborate on lyrics for songs, jingles and theme songs.

In addition to the Surreal Life, Dan also has composed for feature films including The Addams Family, Long Hot Summer, Metro Chase and many more.

Plus, National TV Themes including show like Jerry Springer and Sally Jesse Raphael. No only is Dan is master of more musical styles than I can even mention here, he delivers his craft on time, on budget or under and is willing to bring additional team members to make every object fly!

Not only was Dan Radlauer kind enough to do an interview on What's Out Next, you'll see his smiling face above with Carol Smith, who just completed her pilot at the CBC (Canadian Broadcast Corporation) in July and did some fantastic interviews including Dan at the ABC Radio Network.

The Jon Klein Combine - Show Number 7

The most important ship that people board in life is called a relationship! Listen to another dynamic What's Out Next interview with this weeks' very special guest Jon Klein. One of the most important gifts that an artist can give himself or herself is to "invest" the time to develop their talent. Working away for over 36 months Jon and his dynamic team focused their attention on "getting their sound down!" Guess what? You will hear that commitment in their music and on the interview.

The Jon Klein Combine is 80% blues, 80% rock and 40% soul and funk; which makes for 200% of fiercely indignant blues derivative music. From traditional blues to hard rock, the JKC delivers quality music that they would term "New Old School!"

Drawing deep from within the tradition of American Blues Blues, The JKC's music harkens back to blue greats like Freddy King, Bobby Bland and Ray Charles, while staying current with influences like Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Allman Brothers Band, Led Zeppelin, Deep Banana Blackout, Chris Duarte, Sound Garden, Rage Against The Machine and others. Sounds Diverse? Well it is and it works!

The JKC has been brandishing their blues derivative music for the past ten years and are the best kept underground musical secret in the northeast. Hailing from the New Jersey/New York metro area, The JKC embodies this region's personality with songs that are tough, down, dirty and direct. Each tune carries with it the sophisticated, gritty, insightful, brash and unapologetic attitude of the band.

If you are tired of the same old shuffle blues, jam-bandish self-indulgence or angst-driven teenie bopper rock, than you are on the same page as The Jon Klein Combine. The JKC is looking to recruit you into their army of fans that looks for music based on quality and not packageing. The JKC is a band with a no-nonsense approach and definite philosophy. The Jon Klein Combine believes in a good natured, musical fun!

While What's Out Next! is not a political show, my Mom taught me from an early age that everything is politics. Show Number 5 is very special and we want to thank our dear friend and partner Rick Amato for bringing Brian Bilbray to our attention.

Here is the Background....Brian is very much a maverick and a former Congressman from California. Mr. Bilbray is the cousin of James Hubert Bilbray. Brian was a Representative from California; born in Coronado, Calif., January 28, 1951; graduated Mar Vista High School; attended South Western College; tax consultant; city council; Imperial Beach, Calif., 1976-1978; mayor, Imperial Beach, Calif., 1978-1985; San Diego County Board of Supervisors, 1985-1995; elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Fourth and to the two succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1995-January 3, 2001); unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the One Hundred Seventh Congress.

Here is our take on Brian.....While you may or may not agree with his politics, this was a very important interview for us. First, Brian thinks out of the box and cannot be labeled. We love that! Second, Brian knew and worked with Sonny Bono (even my Dad knew Sonny as a 17 year old kid). Brian is very much up on technology, copyrights and just has the kind of "let's cut through all the bull and just get the job done attitude." We think you'll find the interview as fascinating as we did when Brian sat down for this interview in studio.

For those of you who have been following the peer-to-peer copyright debate, issues surrounding the environment and the real ID act, take a listen, it will give you some great food for thought!

Podcast #6 - Congressman Brian P.
Welcome aboard and congratulations! You are looking at the official launch of What's Out Next! It's the podcast that is produced meeting traditional broadcast standards. Our first guest? Lawrence Tanter!

His story is rooted in two of America’s originals - Basketball & Jazz. As a young man growing up in Chicago, Lawrence pursued both. His skills on the hardwood earned him a scholarship to The University of Dubuque in Iowa, while his love for music landed him a position on the student radio station - which became a strategic launching pad for future success in the broadcast arena.

In the early 70’s … L.T. moved to Los Angeles. There was a 12-year contribution at Stevie Wonder’s radio facility KJLH, and a groundbreaking tenure with the Quiet Storm at KUTE, where he helped popularize the ‘Smooth Jazz’ format in America. He has been filling the airwaves with his cool personality, soulful style, and rich tone for over three decades in Southern California. There have been additional contributions along the way at other facilities…KACE - KLIT- KJAZ & JAZZFM. Currently - he’s a member of the airstaff at KTWV (The Wave). This veteran of commercial radio has become one of the most recognizable voices in America.

"My father told me some years ago, ‘if you have to work, do something you enjoy, because it becomes your craft versus work.’ You get compensated for something you enjoy and then you can give something more than just putting in time on the clock . . . you can provide a little bit of your own heart and soul."

Whether performing on the Lakers’ worldly stage or broadcasting jazz across the globe, Lawrence Tanter’s heart and soul go a long way.

Welcome to the first show! What's Out Next! Dedicated to Music, Technology and Buzz!
